Led by Miles Ashlock, Assistant Dean, Director of the Office of Student Life, and Katya Armistead, Dean of Student Life, UC Santa Barbara, this interactive workshop will explore the research-based Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership and prepare you to leverage the essential skills of vision and collaboration to maximize productivity and innovation in your current and future scientific pursuits.

Informal networking opportunity with faculty and industry representatives. Using the speed-dating model over lunch, this event will give you a chance to explore career options and ask career-related questions.

3 Grad Students Win 2013 UCSB Leadership & Activities Awards

There were several familiar grad student faces at the 2013 Leadership & Activities Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday in the SRB Multipurpose Room. The awards program, supported by Student Life and students’ initiative fees, was led by the Office of Student Life, Division of Student Affairs.

Awards were given in a number of categories, such as Organization of the Year and Outstanding Leadership. The awards for Individual Co-Curricular Activity recognize those students at each grade level who contribute to the quality of campus life through their participation in co-curricular activities.

The three winners in the Graduate Student category for Individual Co-Curricular Activity are:

Peter Todnem Burks, Chemistry

Hannah Kallewaard, Chemistry

Amirali Ghofrani, Computer Engineering

Hosted by Leadership Development in the Office of Student Life

Valued at greater than $1,000- & Available to UCSB Students FREE OF CHARGE

The Winter 2011 Leadership Challenge will be offered as a full-day retreat on Saturday, February 26, 2011. The workshop includes:

○ 360-degree leadership assessment (Student Leadership Practices Inventory or "S-LPI")
○ Engaging, interactive and multi-modal training
○ Extensive review materials and implementation tools
○ Certificate of completion of The Leadership Challenge Workshop at UCSB
○ Credit toward the SLC Introductory Leadership Certificate (Level 1)
○ Invitations to special events hosted by the Leadership Development Center and partners.
